Community Action Partnership’s Senior Nutrition clients were recently served by a very special volunteer. On April 18th, Senator Al Franken partnered with the Scott Carver Dakota CAP Agency to experience first-hand their Senior meal delivery service. The day began with Senator Franken’s visit to the Senior Dining Site in Rosemount. He spoke to staff and saw the CAP Agency team in action. He then rode with volunteer Jim Olson to deliver meals to Ginny (who’s 92) and Amanda (who’s 100). Ginny spoke with Senator Franken about the impact that these meals has made on her life and how vital they have been to her. “This program makes it possible for me to stay in my home”, said Ginny. Amanda has been receiving meals from CAP Agency for 5 years and said “I don’t know what I would do without this meal service”. “This vital program helps keep MN seniors independent”, said Senator Franken. As the current administration in Washington continues to negotiate the federal budget, it is important to remember the day-to-day impact of programs like CAP’s Senior Nutrition. This program served an average of 359 meals per day in 2016. 46,350 meals were delivered to seniors last year in Scott, Carver, and Dakota counties alone. In addition to the vital nutrition that these meals provide, for many home-bound seniors this is their only social interaction of the day. The home delivered meals provide a lifeline to the world for these seniors. “It’s my job to look out for our seniors in Minnesota like Ginny and Amanda. That’s why I’m against the proposed cuts”, said Senator Franken. CAP Agency was honored to have Senator Franken join them for a day to provide this vital service to seniors in the community.
