Adopt-a-Family and Adopt-a-Senior opportunities are now closed, but there is still an opportunity to participate in Hope for the Holidays! If you would like to support your neighbors this holiday season, we are accepting new gifts and gift cards to Wal-Mart, Target, Cub and Hy-Vee, for our Toy Distribution program. Scroll down for details.

Hope for the Holidays 2020 is contact-free this year!

Due to the ongoing pandemic, our Hope for the Holidays “Adopt-a-Family” and “Adopt-a-Senior” programs will look a little different this year! Sign-up and matching will be completed electronically to ensure the health, safety, and wellness of clients, staff, and volunteers. We will also have a contact-free, curbside donor drop-off and distribution process for clients.

We have several measures in place to make this season’s Hope for the Holidays safe for all:

  • All donations can be dropped off at our contact-free drop off locations. When you arrive at the drop off location, instructions will be posted on the front of doors.
  • CAP staff and volunteers will be wearing masks and gloves. We ask that you wear a mask when dropping off gifts.

Toy Distribution

Toy Distribution – This program differs from Adopt-a-Family and Adopt-a-Senior in that a donor gathers toys to be distributed to the greater community instead of being paired directly with a family.

Specifically, these toys are distributed to children from birth to age 14 whose families utilize CAP’s Food Shelf or Energy Assistance programs. Collected toys should not be gift wrapped and should have a $15 value. We will also be accepting gift cards to Wal-Mart, Target, Cub and Hy-Vee.

This opportunity is great for families looking to participate in a seasonal toy-drive event or for organizations looking for an engagement opportunity for their employees, parishioners, and other constituents.

Toy Distribution Registration

Toys and gift cards can be delivered to the contact-free warehouse:

738 1st Ave East, Shakopee, MN 55379

*Note this is not the CAP Shakopee office, this new location accommodates contact-free gift drop-offs*

We will be accepting Toy Distribution donations during the following days and hours:

12/14: 10-12pm

12/15: 1-3pm

12/16: 4-6pm

2020 Hope for the Holidays – Adopt-a-Senior supports senior citizens by providing them with household goods and small gifts to let them know they are not alone this holiday season. For our senior clients who have been living in isolation due to the pandemic, Adopt-a-Senior is a great way to bring seasonal cheer into their homes in a safe and supportive way!

Adopt-a-Senior registration is now closed.

We do not match seniors with specific donors. Rather, we ask that you fill a reusable bag with $25 worth of items our seniors most often need including:

  • Dish soap
  • Dish towels
  • Tissues/Kleenex
  • Toilet paper
  • Paper towels
  • Package of coffee
  • Gift card (suggested value $10)
  • A small gift such as slipper socks, puzzle, books, greeting cards/note cards, stamps

This year, we also encourage you to write a special note or include a holiday card to include in your bag!

All Adopt-a-Senior gift bags can be brought to the Shakopee CAP Office:

712 Canterbury Rd, Shakopee, MN 55379

Gifts bags can be dropped of at our offices during the following times:

12/14: 9am-4pm

12/15: 9am-4pm

12/16: 9am-4pm

Adopt-a-Family spreads the joy of the holidays by providing children and families with gifts. With household budgets being stretched ever thinner this year, these gifts ease the burden on parents. Client families create wish lists and are matched with donors donate gifts specific to those families.

Your adopted family’s Wish List will be emailed to you between November 16-20th.

Your financial obligation for each family member adopted is $50, including a $50 gift card for the parent. We encourage you to donate your gifts unwrapped!

All gift donations should be dropped off at our contact-free warehouse:

738 1st Ave East, Shakopee, MN 55379

*Note this is not the CAP Shakopee office, this new location accommodates contact-free gift drop-offs*
