Room
conditions were not ideal for the training.
It was a combination of heat, flies and a displaced ESL classroom. The sign in sheet and evaluations were
passed for Advisors to review. Half of
the attendees left prior to the start of the final session. Items covered included a brief history of
SFN, clarification of the ‘extra paperwork’ myth, utilization of the
interagency referral, a new school component, and use of flex funding.
We
may want to reconsider the time frame of the training as many school staff end
their regular day before 4:00.
A
Family Support Worker from CAC will provide a presentation on the Somali
culture at the November 3rd meeting. Topics being requested include health care, finance values,
parenting customs, husband/wife roles, socialization (attendance at school
related events), what brought them here (situation in home country). Terry stated that PTSD is huge with this
population.
Sharon,
Molly and Becky will be the Advisors in attendance at the meeting. Flyers will be sent to all Advisors and RCs.
Intake
Workshop
The
workshop is set for November 18th from 8-12 at the CAP Agency. A flyer will be sent to each Advisor to
distribute appropriately within their organization. We are estimating to have 25-30 representatives in attendance.
Closing/Sharing
Wanda
will email the List Serv information to Advisors for distribution so that
partner staff can have the information needed to become members of the group.
CSEC
is struggling with finding transportation for girls enrolled in the New Beginnings
Program. Anne is going to pursue
wraparound where appropriate. Terry
suggested she contact Jan Daniels (MHC) if a wrap mentor is needed.
