Advisor Meeting Minutes

04-07-05

Present:  Molly Kalow, Libby Bergen, Lisa Treml, Tim Bell, Becky Colley, Sharon Diedrich, Steve Brown, Terry Raddatz and Wanda Houska

Ways to Work

Lisa Akinseye, Financial Literacy Specialist, gave a brief presentation on the Ways to Work program being offered at CAP.  The program is currently looking for volunteers to be a part of the loan application review committee.  Advisors were asked to consider this request and to also bring it back to their organizations.

Partner Check Ins

Jordan – The board has approved staffing cuts including 5.5 teaching positions and a reduction in hours of the middle school social worker.

Shakopee – Because of the continuous growth in the district, Shakopee has not had to make such drastic cuts.  An alternative site, not yet determined, will need to be utilized for elementary students next year.

CAP – The Head Start audit went very well with only 25 infractions out of 750, mostly due to the absence of a Special Needs Coordinator on staff.

Mental Health Center – is still in the process of the study to determine the practicality of becoming independent of the County.

Prior Lake – District and community are dealing with the shock of a second 9th grade suicide this year.  Parents are struggling and seeking resources, students are dealing with anger and rumors.

Children’s Mental Health – has seen an increase in CD assessments and placements.  Margie Nickerson is now handling truancy and minor parent services.

Belle Plaine – finally passed a building referendum and will be proceeding with a new 3-6 elementary school and renovation to the high school.

Resource Coordinator Meeting

The Russian Speaking Immigrants forum on April 5th went very well and was attended by over 30 partner staff members.

Ideas for future meetings include:  meth informational training (once identified, now what), poverty issues (Ruby Payne), and resources pertaining to suicide (tap into things PLS has done).  The Team thought it would be beneficial to also plan an intake meeting at least every other year.

LCTS Training

ALL LCTS participants need to be retrained prior to the start of the next quarter (July for Court Services and Public Health, September for schools), Most partners now have one person trained by DHS and are ‘qualified’ to train staff internally.  New materials to be used when determining proper coding have been distributed and are also available through Wanda.

Steering Update

It was determined at the March Steering meeting that the collaborative will no longer fund the full time executive assistant position as of July 1 due to the projected decrease in revenue.  It has not yet been determined how the new administrative structure will look.

Closing

Sharon shared a proposal to collaboratively develop service Hubs in each Scott County community.  This proposal will also be shared with the Steering Committee on April 11th.

Next meeting will be May5th

 from 9:30-11 at CAP.
