Advisor Meeting Minutes

03-03-05

Present:  Linda Schwichtenberg, Molly Kalow, Libby Bergen, Keri Lorenz, Tim Bell, Kathy McKay, Becky Colley, Sharon Diedrich, Anne Runck, Terry Raddatz and Wanda Houska

Partner Check Ins

Sharon – Things are going well J

Anne – CSEC “Haven in Waconia”, which is an adolescent day treatment program for chemical dependent or substance abusers.  It also serves students in the evening.  The program is named after Bob Haven, the founder.  They have several locations, with the Waconia site having a day educational component (8-4). There are 10 students enrolled with an 11 student capacity.  The program includes 4 hours of treatment and 3 hours of education.  Anne is providing the special education component.  The school district provides transportation but also has a choice of where (which program) to enroll the student. There is a program in Shakopee with an educational component but it is not day treatment, it is outpatient treatment.

The ‘behavior school’ is still looking for a site and plans to be open this fall.

Terry – the Mental Health Center continues to work on transitioning to being independent from the county.

Linda – Public Health is in the transition process also.

Becky – CAP has been preparing for a Head Start audit.  There is the possibility that Head Start will be switched to a state program run through the school districts rather than a federal program run through non-profits.

Keri – has been working on the transition to community corrections.

Kathy – Staff has been challenged by the district’s fast growth.  School board is working on space options for 2005-2006.

Libby – feels that the Shakopee district is a good representation of state demographics.  Since all 5th and 6th graders are pulled together in one school, children are exposed to the different cultures and learn acceptance/tolerance.

Molly – Jordan now has a FT autism teacher, which has already made it possible for two students to return to their home district.  The school board will be determining budget cuts next week.

Tim – Both PLS bond questions passed.  The district is now planning on what to do first.  Next school year will start August 22 and end May 23, 2006.

NP – Referendum passed and two elementary schools will be built.

BP – Referendum passed for a new elementary school.

Plans for Next Resource Coordinator Meeting

A forum on Russian cultures will lead the upcoming resource coordinator meeting on April 5th from 2-4 at the Prior Lake library.  Two panel members have been secured with the possibility of a third from Belle Plaine.  Sharon distributed an outline she plans to give to the panelists that includes possible questions to be discussed. She will also check with the panelists and determine a title for the forum.  Once Wanda gets this information a flyer will be developed and distributed.

Update From Steering

Terry shared the process Steering used to determine collaborative priorities and desired outcomes.  Wanda distributed and excerpt from their meeting minutes that lists all outcomes presented.  Four main criteria were agreed upon and will be used when evaluating site proposals.  Advisors were asked to be aware of these specific criteria when working on proposal development for their organizations.

Wanda asked for assistance in developing a mock proposal that the Steering Committee would review as part of setting their proposal evaluation process.  Terry volunteered and also said some of her staff could help.

Terry asked the Advisors to share their opinions on the availability of flex funds used as part of wraparound plans.  It was determined that this type of funding remains available and that they should continue to be connected to collaborative work.

Review of Plans

Five wrap plans were reviewed.  The entire Team reviewed two that had funding requests linked to them; small groups reviewed three others with no funding requested.

Closing

It has become apparent that the current 9:00 start time for monthly Advisor meetings is difficult for some representatives to honor.  Starting next month, Advisor meetings will start at 9:30 with the intention of concluding them by 11:00.

Next meeting will be April 7th

 from 9:30-11 at CAP.
