Description
Weatherization
provides services to reduce home heating and cooling costs, such as
insulation, caulking, diagnostic tests, minor furnace repairs and furnace
replacements. Participants also receive home energy-saving tips.
Eligibility
Weatherization services are available to homeowners and renters
living in Scott, Carver and Dakota Counties who are eligible for the
Energy Assistance Program and in need of energy-related services.
Weatherization
assistance priority is given to the elderly, persons with disabilities,
households with children under the age of six in homes that experience
extraordinarily high levels of energy consumption.
Participation
Weatherization participation follows a home instead of a family.
Weatherization clients may qualify for additional services if they move
to a different home or if services were provided prior to 1993. Due
to the high volume of requests, program eligibility does not guarantee
service.
How
to Apply
Households who have applied to and are eligible for the Energy
Assistance Program are automatically referred for Weatherization services.
A Weatherization priority status of 1-5 is stated in a client’s
EAP award letter (“1” = high priority, “5” =
already been served.)
Scott
and Carver Counties: Residents who are EAP eligible through
the CAP Agency are referred to the CAP Agency Weatherization program.
Dakota County: Residents who are EAP eligible through
the CAP Agency are referred to the Dakota County Community Development
Agency (CDA) for Weatherization services.
Cost
Weatherization services are of no cost to eligible families.
