Description
The Food Support Program is a county-run, federal
program that helps Minnesotans with low-income get the food they need
for sound nutrition and well-balanced meals. Under the guidance of the
United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Minnesota Department
of Human Services (DHS), monthly benefits are issued in the form of
a re-usable Electronic Benefit Transfer card (EBT). This is used at
a grocery store in their community. Each month, new benefits are loaded
onto the card.
Participation
Food Support Outreach
includes both public education and assistance in applying for the program.
Eligibility
Program will assist in determining if participant is within possible
income and asset guidelines and help understand what forms of income
verification are necessary. Final determination and issuance of benefits
will be done by local county human services agency.

Food Support Outreach Program is available to Scott, Carver and Dakota
county residents by calling: Terry Hassan, Coordinator, at 952-496-2125,
ext 4835.
Cost
Food Support Outreach/application assistance is provided at no cost.
Volunteer
Opportunities
Ongoing volunteer opportunities are available for interested individuals.
Free training is provided and due to client confidentiality, background
checks are required. Volunteers should be comfortable filling out forms
and be knowledgeable of diverse income sources.
